About Senescent Gaming

Senescent Gaming traces back to LAN nights running over IPX/SPX, matchmaking through Kali, and browsing servers on GameSpy 3D — an era when finding a game took longer than playing one. It was never just one genre: shooters for the reflexes, RTS for the spreadsheets disguised as strategy, and eventually MOBAs once someone discovered you could argue about lane assignments for longer than the match itself. What started as a loose group of regulars who kept showing up to the same servers turned into something closer to a team, mostly because nobody else wanted to put up with our callouts. A couple of us even ran Counter-Strike through CAL's amateur ladder back when "going pro" meant a free mousepad — a run best remembered for its jerseys and its losses, in roughly that order.

The name is the joke and the point. Senescent means aging — and while the current esports scene loves crowning teenagers as "veterans" after two seasons, we've been doing this since before most pro rosters' players were born. We don't have faster reflexes than we used to. We have better positioning, worse knees, and absolutely no patience for being spammed with "hey want to join our clan" messages.

What we actually do

Play the games we've always played, on our own schedule, with people we already trust. We are not actively recruiting, scouting, or accepting tryouts — see the recruitment page for the long version of that short answer.

The name, if you're still wondering

Senescent (adj.): growing old. That's it. That's the bit.

Words we sort of live by

  • HACK THE PLANET. OR AT LEAST THE THERMOSTAT.
  • MESS WITH THE BEST, NAP LIKE THE REST.
  • THE ONLY WINNING MOVE IS TO QUEUE ANYWAY.
  • BOOM. HEADSHOT. GIVE US A MINUTE TO STAND BACK UP.
